Hispanics and Obama

You might recall my electoral prediction from early June 2011, if only because you said it made you antsy, coming so far ahead of the election. I am not sure if your experience was neurological or a surface itch, but I thought to offer a second prediction with less sureness and more talc.

Hispanic support for the Democrats will be surprisingly weak. The weakness will result from the following concerns, in order: (a) the economy; (b) discomfort with black racialism, with some Hispanics focusing on crime and, in light of Trayvon’s apotheosis, identifying with the Hispanic George Zimmerman; and (c) Obama’s betrayal of the Catholic Church. Immigration issues will not be as important.
