Are Republican supporters of mass legal Hispanic immigration non-liberals?

A liberal reader disputes my idea that Republicans are liberal on immigration. He gets around the obvious fact that Republicans support mass legal immigration of Hispanics by simply declaring that they do not support such immigration. Bottom line: it is impossible to get liberals to see the liberalism of Republicans and “conservatives.” It would destroy their world view.

Hmm, I’m stating that certain people fail to see an obvious truth about something. Does this mean, as Hesperado argued at Mangan’s Miscellany, that I’m a gnostic? Actually no, because gnostics think that the truth is hidden from ordinary human reason and not obvious. A person who thinks that a certain truth should be evident to people of normal mind, and that it’s only ideological blinders that prevent them from seeing the truth, is the opposite of a gnostic.
