The pipe dream that will never die

Paul Nachman writes to the editor of Newsweek:

Karl Rove thinks Republicans have a shot at the Hispanic vote. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, who is three-fourths Hispanic by birth, could instruct him otherwise. Interviewed by a Mexican visitor at the 2000 Democratic National Convention, Richardson said, “What do Hispanics want? Fully funded government programs!” In short, they’re natural Democrats. Rove isn’t eloquent enough to change that.
