Bad

An index of how things are going tonight is that Romney’s biggest booster, Hugh Hewitt, has not posted anything at his blog since 9:14. It’s now 10:30. (Though maybe Hewitt does his radio show in the evening.) There’s just no good news. Except maybe that Huckabee’s strong showing shows McCain’s weakness.

Update: Romney, in a speech right after 10:30, remains surprisingly upbeat, and, perhaps based on McCain’s weakness vis a vis Huckabee, says forcefully that he is going to continue to campaign all the way to the convention. That flies in the face of the FOX commentators like William Kristol who said that Romney cannot realistically continue if he wins only three states out of sixteen.

Even if it is the case that Romney after tonight lacks a numerical path to the nomination, I do hope he stays in the race, to represent the true and deeply felt sentiment that McCain is totally unacceptable. McCain will remain totally unacceptable. If the opposition to him remains alive, the possibility remains that he will somehow be stopped.
