Now that “Tom Martel” is gone, who will defend us?

Jim Boulet of English First writes in an e-mail:

Expect more stories about Republicans losing control of issues and bills now that Congressman Tom DeLay is leaving Congress. DeLay never lost control of the floor during his tenure as Whip and Majority Leader.

DeLay would have been a bulwark against any amnesty bill passed by the Senate. That bulwark is now gone. And now the pro-amnesty lobby senses they can get a lot more than they ever expected to get so they want to railroad the immigration bill.

Delay’s nickname, of course, is The Hammer, the same as that of the great Frankish leader Charles Martel (which means the Hammer), who saved Europe from Arab conquest in 732 and labored for decades subduing the barbarians in the forests of Germany, spreading Christianity and rule of law.
