A new step in the unfoldment of liberalism: Diversity is not just one of the highest goods; and it is not just the highest good; it is the only good.

See Sage McLaughlin’s powerful reflections on a Harvard geneticist’s remark that “The one thing that is bad for society is low diversity.”

UPDATE, 9:50 p.m.: The discussion has continued all day about this Harvard professor’s remark which is as extreme an articulation of liberalism as Gen. George Casey’s statement that if Major Hasan had been ejected from the Army before he committed the Fort Hood massacre, thus reducing the Army’s Muslim diversity, that would have been a bigger tragedy than the massacre itself.
