Bellevue evacuated

An index of the gravity of the storm damage: New York City’s Bellevue Hospital, which of course lost regular power when Con Ed pre-emptively turned off power below 34th Street, subsequently lost its backup generator due to the storm surge flooding the hospital’s basement and shorting out the generator. All 700-plus patients had to be evacuated. I suppose that patients had to be carried down stairs, since the elevators would not have been operating.

When Bellevue is evacuated, that is serious.
