The latest winner of the Dan Balz Award

The Dan Balz Award is given to writers and publications which, like Dan Balz, portray as odd or troubling the fact that an electoral contest does not have a pre-determined conclusion.

The latest winner is the International Herald Tribune, which ran this lead on its main page:

Romney trumps McCain in Michigan vote

Mitt Romney’s win, the first major trophy for his ailing campaign, throws the wide-open Republican field into further disarray.

To the writers and editors of the Herald Tribune, the fact that the GOP contest has not yet been won, means that it’s in disarray. The only way for it not to be in disarray, would be that the winner had already been declared. What these liberals want. whether they consciously realize it or not, is a managed, EU-type society without real elections.
