I count eleven killed over the decades in the legendary feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys. How does that compare with a single month in Chicago?

One of the Chicago Tribune’s other papers, the Redeye (online version), has a database of Chicago’s homicides going back to 2007.

The age, race, and sex of the victims are available, but I’m not aware of the same information on the offenders being listed. Hispanics are listed as whites. So the vast majority of the “whites” are people with names like Juan Lopez, or Roberto Garcia.

According to the Redeye, 50 people were murdered in Chicago in May 2012.
