Murder by guns busting out all over in Seattle
In the last four weeks, two whites in Seattle have been killed by blacks, one a family man shot in crossfire between black gang members at an intersection on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, the other a young woman shot from a passing car. In all, as the Los Angeles Times tells us, 19 people have been murdered in Seattle since the beginning of the year, compared with 21 for all of 2011.
Three more people were murdered in Seattle today. Two of victims were shot and killed when a gunman opened fire at a café in the university district. Three other people were wounded at the café. The New York Daily News reports that “Police are searching for the gunman, described as a man in his 30s wearing dark clothes.”
Wow. That’s really a useful description, isn’t it? Witnesses described his clothing and his age, but not his race. But of course they told police his race. The Daily News simply chose not to repeat it. It is such an astonishing phenomenon that I never cease being astonished by it, and I will never cease pointing it out: In liberal society, many news organs consider it more important to avoid describing at-large murderers by their race than to provide the information needed to apprehend them.
But while this is utterly shocking, it is no surprise, because, as we already know, under liberalism, “racism” is a worse offense than murder.
And what is “racism” in the current instance? Saying that a black murder suspect is black. [UPDATE: the killer is white. Why, then, did the media, or at least the Daily News, suppress the information about his race? (And please note that it was their suppression of his race that was the decisive factor that led me to assume he was black.) Perhaps their rule of not giving the suspects’s race, a rule established for the sake of blacks, has now become so much of a habit, given the overwhelming preponderance of black violence, that they automatically did the same with a white suspect as well. But once his identity was definitely established, and it wasn’t just a matter of witnesses’ accounts, they snapped out of it and described him as “white,” thus returning to their usual habit of giving the race of white suspects but not of black suspects. As the Seattle Times reports in the above-linked article which was published after the suspect was identified by his family: “He was described as a white man, 30-40 years old, 6-feet-1, with a thin build, light brown curly hair, a goatee or beard.” Prior to that, I did not see any media story giving his race, even though they had reported that witnesses at the scene of the crime had decribed him as a man wearing dark clothes and in his thirties.]
In the other incident [UPDATE: Police now believe the same man committed both crimes], as reported by the Seattle Times, a woman was shot during a carjacking in a parking lot near Town Hall:
The woman and a man were seen arguing in the parking lot at Eighth and Seneca earlier in the morning, police said. The man shot the woman around 11:30 a.m. and fled in a black Mercedes SUV. It’s unknown at this point whether the vehicle belonged to him. What? Is the Times about to say that the suspect is black? Nope. Here’s the full sentence:
TV news footage showed what appeared to be a black handgun in the front seat. That’s right! It’s those black handguns that are committing all these murders in Seattle! Just as Seattle’s police brass told the city council yesterday.
Not only that, but, as reported by King5 News, the suspect is described as a “white male, about 35-years old, blonde haired with a crew cut.”
Ok, so now it’s a white man with a black handgun. I saw a white man who shot a black gun, to paraphrase Dylan. Or will the police keep to their line that it was the gun that did it? Stay tuned.
