For an art that lifts instead of lowering us

In the thread, “The West needs a Joan of Arc,” Pentheus has an essay on a 19th century painting of Joan as a model for the kind of art we need. It is a painting that, most remarkably, combines photographic naturalism with a vision of saints. From the subject of Joan and painting Pentheus moves on to the question of what kind of positive contribution we can make as conservatives to the present society.
