Perry’s extraordinary success as a politician

There is a good article in Texas Monthly about Rick Perry’s electoral prowess—he has won 10 contested elections since 1984 and lost none.

Some of his opponents were formidable (Jim Hightower, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Bill White). The article includes interviews with the candidates he defeated telling what it was like running against him.

His electoral achievements, along with 10 years as governor of one of our most important states, overwhelm the resumes of the other Republican candidates and, in my opinion, are enough to explain why he became the favorite (or co-favorite with Romney, if you like) as soon as he announced.
