At the Paper of Record, everything serves the ruling ideology …

… even the the Quotation of the Day, which today is:

“I think that any high-profile case exposes routine police work, and when you get into the guts of routine police work it is often not a pretty picture.”
Eugene J. O’Donnell, a professor of police studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, on the handling of the Strauss-Kahn case.

See, the cosmic, unprecedented screw-up by the prosecutors in the Strauss-Kahn case was really routine! Police and prosecutors always screw up. So there’s nothing particular of note here, no special reason to find fault with (Democratic, liberal) District Attorney Cyrus Vance.

The Times’ quotation of the day brings back the main liberal slogan from 13 years ago: “Everyone does it.” Meaning that all U.S. presidents—and all American men in general—have been Clinton-scale adulterers, liars, and abusers of women. So there was no reason to judge Clinton or hold to him to account. Liberals eagerly trash our entire society, all its standards, and drag our finest historical figures into the mud, in order to preclude the act of moral judgment—except, of course, when they themselves choose to exercise the most ferocious moral judgment, against non-liberals.
