Romney’s unrecognized strong point?

The other day I jokingly suggested that Romney’s political strategy was to be boring. Now Howie Carr in the Boston Herald argues that being boring is, or should be, Romney’s explicit claim to the Republican nomination and the White House.

James P. writes:

“The GOP needs a boring candidate” sounds like the typical ill-intentioned maladvice the media offers to Republicans. “Put someone completely insipid up against our rock star”—yeah, that’s the ticket! Maybe we can drag Bob Dole out of retirement for a reprise of the 1996 campaign!

Then if the GOP took the advice to avoid a “nutty” Republican, and nominated Romney, the media immediately would start churning out stories about Romney’s “nuttiness”, starting with his “kooky” religion.
