Flash mob phenomenon arrives in Manhattan

James P. writes:

This story in the Mail about a “flash mob” in a Dunkin’ Donuts in Greenwich Village refers to the perpetrators as “young people.” The race of the “young people” is left as an exercise for the reader.

Here’s a Fox story on the same flash mob attack.

Does the Internet make it appear that these flash mobs are occurring with greater frequency, or is the Internet just reporting an accurate up-tick in the flash mob trend? I wasn’t in NYC during the crime of the 1970s through the early 1990s, but it sure appears that inner city crime is increasing. Especially this type of “pack” behavior. Isn’t this in a nice area of NYC? (Note: the “top” comments following the story are especially interesting)
