Wisconsin Dems still fighting; are the Republicans?

James P. writes:

Sage McLaughlin wonders why the Wisconsin Republicans don’t generate intolerable legislation in order to bring the Democrats back to the legislature. This question is even more baffling in view of today’s news that the Democrats in the Wisconsin Assembly are feverishly generating unacceptable amendments to the anti-union bill in an effort to derail it. Thus, in a legislature that is ostensibly totally Republican controlled, both Senate and Assembly, it appears that the Republicans are dozing while the Democrats are furiously active. I simply don’t know how to explain this!

The Republicans are simply being Republicans. They do not know how to get down and fight dirty. They do not know how to fight aggressively; in fact, aggressiveness goes against their very nature. They are so obessessed with appearing to be “nice” that they have lost any ability to get into the trenches and contend with their political foes. It is frustrating to watch, but until and unless the Republicans roll up their sleeves and take the initiative, the Democrats will hand them a defeat.
