A clear standard, applied

The beyond-discredited Bart Stupak, who spent several months repeatedly stating to the country in the most unequivocal terms that he would never vote for a health care bill that did not bar the use of federal funds for abortions, and then, on March 21, 2010, proceeded to do exactly that, has a Republican challenger. He is Dan Benishek, a surgeon from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula who has never held political office.

The story made me want to send Benishek a donation, but then I remembered a certain pledge I had signed, so I wrote to him:

Dear Dr. Benishek,

I would like to sent you a donation for your campaign to unseat Rep. Stupak. But before I can do so, I need to know if you are committed to the repeal of Obamacare. I have signed the “Repeal Obamacare Pledge”, which says that I will only support and make contributions to candidates who vow to repeal Obamacare.

Thank you.
Lawrence Auster

I posted the message to Benishek at his website on March 31. I haven’t heard back from him.
