Anti-Republican hate speech at San Francisco Chronicle

K. Miller writes:

Awhile ago you were discussing the hatred of the Left toward conservatives. Read the following column by Mark Morford from the SF Chronicle (online) if you dare. It shows an example of the puerile diatribes and ad hominem attacks that pass for writing there. Even more revealing are the readers’ comments at the end. They give amazing insights into how the Left views itself, at least in SF.

When I clicked on Morford’s line where it states: “tremble in fear at a special Fox News report on how the SuperDevil is currently terrorizing Christian children with adulterous marmalade……” the link took me to a Family Guy cartoon spoofing Fox News. I honestly thought the link would take me to a segment showing a real Fox News report that proved his point. Instead I got a cartoon. So the Left now relies on cartoons, Jon Stewart and Keith Olberman among its many intellectual sources.

Even more telling is how the Left views Barack Obama, as Morford writes:

“No, this time the Dems just so happen to be blessed beyond human comprehension with something very unique indeed, a true golden ticket, a magic death-ray force field of intellectual virtuosity even they don’t seem to fully comprehend or know how to keep up with. They have Barack Obama himself.

“Truly, the man outpaces and outshines even his own party. At nearly every turn, Obama often seems to be merely tolerating the whole two-party system, the whole D.C. dance he’s forced to waltz, all of it merely a distraction to getting things done. It’s as though he’s an entirely new political mechanism, and the Dems just happen to be lucky enough to be the party that’s most aligned with it. Meanwhile, it’s all apparently driving the opposition party—quite literally—insane.”

As I’ve said, read it all if you dare. It is like reading an adolescent’s diary.

LA replies:

You speak of “puerile diatribes,” “ad hominem attacks,” “an adolescent’s diary.” I’ve read some of the column, and it’s worse than any of those things, it’s a demented, insane rant about Republicans. This kind of thing is standard in the liberal blogosphere. But to see it coming from a regular columnist in a regular newspaper is truly shocking. Thus he describes the Republican party as:

a feral monster, dangerous and cruel and willing to sell its own shriveled heart and the heart of its very remorseful mother for a shot at everlasting infamy, even more power and maybe some fresh, raw kitten blood, intravenously, just for the hell of it.

Reading a piece like this, we realize that there is exists on the American left a mainstreamed, established, fascist-style hate campaign against half the country.

I’ll use a word I hardly ever use: this is very troubling.

I think people should write to the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle protesting this. This is totally unacceptable. It’s pure hate speech.

This is exactly the sort of thing I had in mind when I warned that an Obama presidency would embolden the left. I expect the displays of hostility from the left to become even more blatant and more frequent, not less. The narcissism of the left is toxic, ubiquitous and entrenched. We ignore both its type and degree at our own peril.

I’d love to know just what everybody is planning to do about this.

LA replies:

And what about the attack on Carrie Prejean, the Miss USA contentant who has been persecuted for simply answering a question at the pageant about her opinion on marriage? This is the worst I’ve seen yet, this is passing a new line in our country, when a person is asked her opinion, she gives it, and she becomes a hate object.
