The dilemma of the pro-homosexual anti-jihadist

Henry Hotspur writing at Taki’s Magazine tells of the American homosexual writer Bruce Bawer’s frustrated search for the homosexual utopia in Europe. By a cruel twist of fate, wherever Bawer went in Europe that was especially friendly to homosexuals, somehow also turned out to be especially dangerous for homosexuals. Hotspur writes:

Unlike in the U.S., homosexuals in Amsterdam are legally allowed to marry because the Dutch no longer uphold the traditional moral order. At the same time, homosexuals in Dutch cities live in constant fear of being beaten up by Muslims youths obeying the Koranic decree that homosexuals be put to death, because the Dutch no longer uphold law and order either.

Bawer, says Hotspur, fails to understand that the same ultra freedom that produces total tolerance for homosexuals, also produces total tolerance for violently homosexual-hating Muslims. He fails to recognize that Europe, by stripping itself of “oppressive” Christian morality, turned itself into a moral vacuum into which the million-times-more-oppressive moral system of Islam could freely insert itself. He is blind to the fact, as Hotspur cleverly puts it, that the disappearance of traditional moral order means the disappearance of law and order, and thus of the ability to control or remove jihadists. Indeed, far from wanting to restore traditional European morality and cultural identity, so as better to resist the inroads of Islam, Bawer says that those who believe in traditionalism are as dangerous as the Muslims themselves.

Thus Bawer last year attacked Paul Belien and the Brussels Journal as “a bunch of little Euro-fascists.” Why? Because Belien had said:

Europe is in the middle of a three-way culture war between the defenders of traditional Judeo-Christian morality, the proponents of secular hedonism and the forces of Islamic Jihadism.

Since Belien was standing for the defenders of traditional Judeo-Christian morality and against the proponents of secular hedonism, he was a fascist. In using the fascist label on Belien, Bawer allied himself with Charles “Jackboot” Johnson of Little Green Footballs, who, on the basis of four degrees of separation and a bookend in the shape of a Celtic cross, launched an insane, months-long attack on Brussels Journal and Vlaams Belang, calling them pro-Nazi and seeking to expel them from the respectable anti-Islamization movement.

Bawer is thus a typical deluded liberal. He is deeply hostile to traditional Western norms, since such norms oppressed homosexuals. His ideal is unrestrained freedom, achieved by the removal of traditional norms. But such unrestrained freedom opens the doors to the Muslims who also deeply alarm Bawer. The growing power of Islam further leads to anti-hate-speech laws that punish people for criticizing Islam and radically restrain freedom, at least freedom of speech. Bawer loudly criticizes such laws, while he remains silent about their use to punish people who criticize both Islam and homosexuality, such as Brigitte Bardot.

At bottom, Bawer does not believe in the nations of the West as concrete, historical societies based on religion and culture. He believes in liberal freedom, and he thinks that liberal freedom, consistently applied, ought to be enough to stop the anti-freedom Muslims. He is unable to comprehend that a totally free and liberal society, that is, a society that lacks any traditional moral or cultural authority, will also lack the will to oppose the inroads of Islam. The real choice then, is not between a totally free Europe and an Islamized Europe, since a totally free Europe will inevitably be Islamized. The real choice is between a re-traditionalized Europe and an Islamized Europe. One way or another, the fantasy of complete homosexual freedom, like the rule of modern liberalism itself, is doomed.

Gintas writes:

The body’s immune system is about gone. Which disease is going to be the proximate cause of death? No doubt about it: Bawer wants the patient dead, thus traditional Western Civilization must go. But Bawer and his kind are intent on an ecstatic, nihilistic death plunge into the Darkness (aka “Suicide of the West”), and Islam gets in the way of that.
