Obama’s conversation on race begins!

When Obama declared that America needs to have a conversation about race, I said that instead of talking about having a conversation about race, why not actually have this conversation? How about you, Obama, telling us what YOU think about race, and that way this conversation can get rolling?

Well, he’s obliged me.

We’ve already discussed his sparkling conversation starter here, but let’s hear it again, I can’t get enough of it. Remember, this is the likely presidential nominee of the Democratic party:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them … And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

(I again recommend my 1992 article in the Miami Herald in which I examined the time-honored but no less egregious liberal argument, “All conservative positions are a psychological symptom of some other problem that conservatives are unhappy about, and therefore are to be automatically dismissed,” which Obama takes to an extreme in the above statement.)

Now let’s hear, at Lucianne.com, the conversation that Obama has inspired:

How would he know about small towns? He doesn’t. He is just guessing or maybe some Communist professor of psycology or Social Studies told him. I live in a small town. What we don’t like are high taxes, government interference in our schools, and government messing with our doctors. We like our guns because, like him, we want protection from gangs and drugs which are infiltrating our towns. Now that is one thing you know something about, Barry. Drugs. Where did you get yours? Who was your dealer? Don’t start preaching to us until you get yourself straightened out.

Obama continues gazing through his naval to test whether white America will tolerate his condescending and arrogant views. He is no longer a viable candidate.

Do we really want a loose cannon rolling about the deck of SS America spouting Marxist nonsense with the expectation that we ‘typical white people’ will overlook his effort to redefine our nation.

The magic has evaporated from the Magic Negro, and I for one am sickened by this attempt to alter our duly chartered government. Obama may think little of our Constitution, but there are hundreds of thousands of regular citizens who will not be content watching our government slide into socialism/Marxism, and we will take the necessary action to stop it.

I cling to religion because I know that makes this world more tolerable, and will sustain me in my next life. My husband has a roomful of rifles and shotguns because he likes to collect them. They give him pleasure. I don’t care if someone isn’t like me. I look at them to see if they are good people and contribute in a positive way to society. That’s why I have a lot of liberal friends. And CNN, the future source for CBS, brings in a commentator who verifies that Obama’s ‘small town folks are beneath me’ claim is correct.

People who make small salaries do turn to the evil ‘Religion’ and tote guns. Now I’d say that people with small salaries tend to turn to the Democrats demanding more ‘stuff’ from the government. Obama is like Pauline Kael who couldn’t understand how Nixon won because none of HER friends voted for him. Obama misinterprets the country because he only knows the elite (extreme marxist)slice of it!

Reply 35—Posted by: Strike3, 4/12/2008 7:50:30 AM

Now I see why obambi never says anything in his eloquent speeches. When he finally does inject some substance, it’s either stupid, condescending or downright ignorant. When I think of the things that might be wrong with small town Pennsylvania, it’s usually something that the government has done. Don’t even think about messing with our guns bambi.

Reply 36—Posted by: SallyVee, 4/12/2008 7:53:08 AM

You know what else is really telling: Obama was speaking to San Francisco Libs about people in Pennsylvania. In other words, he felt very much “at home” in the venue, and free to talk about “those hicks out in the sticks” back east.

And yes, I do wonder who recorded Obama’s speech and spilled it.

Reply 37—Posted by: daddyo, 4/12/2008 7:53:09 AM

Comments like these, and the Rev Wright speeches, show the power of the internet and how the MSM no longer has the power to quash stories unfavorable to their candidates.

The AP story does its best to undo the damage.. Why I no longer subscribe to newspapers.

Reply 38—Posted by: M2, 4/12/2008 7:56:05 AM

How revealing of Obama’s worldview is this? His worldview, one of postmodern elitism and symbolism over substance, reveals that he thinks people who have guns, lose their jobs, rely upon God rather than man—that they are “bitter” people.

Obama believes that these folks, like Cool Hand Luke, need to “get their minds right.” Jack Nicholson in “As Good as it Gets”, tells upper-class black art dealer Cuba Gooding to “think white and get real.”

Obama is telling flyover country that their values and their ideology (and worst of all, their religion) are not “right”. They need to grow up and start thinking like Obama thinks.

But isn’t this the eternal mistake of liberals?; believing that everyone else is pathetically uninformed?

Reply 39—Posted by: novadlb, 4/12/2008 7:58:14 AM

None of this, nothing, is going to change the minds of anyone already aswoon over Obama. In 1991-1992 there was enough publicly available information to make it abundantly clear that W. J. Clinton was manifestly unsuitable to be President of the United States. Didn’t stop wrong-headed people from voting for him anyway.

Reply 40—Posted by: dolphin, 4/12/2008 7:59:08 AM

Make no mistake lefties, we are kind and gentle, but do not mistake our good nature with a lack of resolve. We will fight, and brutally so. And, just to have you get a clue, guess who has the firepower to do so. We’d rather not go there but, there is a point when it will be unleashed. We’ll dodge your platitudes, your side can dodge lead. T Jefferson said it best. The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. There’s a reason the left and many other politicians want to ban firearms. It makes their job of complete control over us a lot easier. It’s not going to happen O.We’ve been nice so far. Reply 50—Posted by: AirForceCane, 4/12/2008 8:25:58 AM

I am spitting angry.

There is just so much to unpack here. Like how Obama’s defense is to say he knows middle class small towns better than the “out of touch McCain”.

McCain has lived in Fairfax Virginia, Meridian Mississippi, Jacksonville Florida, Hanoi Vietnam, lived on an aircraft carrier with 3,000 people from all over the US, Annapolis Maryland, Phoenix Arizona and has a ranch in small town Arizona. That is just off the top of my head.

but Obama, living in Indonesia and Hawaii and Harvard and inner city Chicago knows middle America?!!

So he justifies their supposed bigotry and “religiousity and gun culture and racism and anti-immigrant” views as because they are too dumb to find a job and hate the other who doesn’t look like them?!!

He is basically using the same excuse he does for his fellow congregants at Trinity United and Reverend Wright- that it is okay to hate as long as you don’t have a job and are bitter.

Who on earth could vote for this creature? Please tell me there are still 51% of Americans who love their country..

Reply 51—Posted by: JimK1, 4/12/2008 8:28:16 AM

I love the spin that Obambi has tried to put on this. He isn’t renouncing what he said, he is attacking Hillary and McCain as being rich or out of touch, but he IS standing by his words, just like he stands by his friendship with Wright, Farrakahn, Ayers, Rezko et al. This clown is so far left he doesn’t have a right hand, just a left hand and uber-left hand. Keep talking Barry, you are your own worst enemy, although your friends are close behind.

Reply 52—Posted by: justjoe, 4/12/2008 8:34:02 AM

Let’s hope somebody in the MSM examines his words seriously: Whites in PA tend to live in the small towns, blacks tend to live in the cities (in largest numbers, both cases). The portrait he gives—guns, prejudice, religion—is the stereotype of *the redneck*, *the cracker*. It is a stunningly racist comment, arrogant, ignorant and ugly.

Post racial??!! If this elitist bigot gets to be POTUS I do fear his racism will trigger a race war.

Reply 53—Posted by: Arby, 4/12/2008 8:45:43 AM

This is extremely telling. Early in the campaign Obama succeeded by mouthing platitudes and avoiding substance like a salt shaker full of anthrax. Slowly but surely he’s let things slip. By the general election we’ll know who he really is—a bigoted, far left ideologue with a smiling face. This is one step along the way. He doesn’t want the general electorate to know how far to the left he is; with this comment he’s revealed how stupid he is. This is the kind of comment that could receive a D- in a freshman sociology class.

Reply 54—Posted by: artlover, 4/12/2008 8:50:21 AM

I say that if he does get to be President, everything and everyone in the whitehouse will be black—-just like the cities in this country that they have taken over. It will be the end of this country as we know it now. They want the whites to hire the blacks, but when it is reverse, forget it…..

The only accurate part of his quote was that the Clinton administation has done nothing to help economically deprived communities. I’m from NY, and she campaigned on bringing jobs back to upstate—nothing has happened up there. It’s as bleak an area jobwise, if not worse, since she’s been our senator. If anyone looks at her Senate record carefully, they’ll see how totally ineffective she is.

Reply 57—Posted by: dulac, 4/12/2008 8:57:17 AM

To build on #29’s point that this is the gift Hillary’s been looking for: This kind of derogatory stereotyping is just the kind of thing that could give the Superdelegates cover to “overturn” the popular vote. Especially since his lead was built up BEFORE his true colors came to light. I am with those wondering if this was the surprise hinted at earlier this week. Sounds like the tape was a Clinton operation—did it get leaked earlier than expected? Will he be able to spin it to the good in the debate? As fun as this is to watch, I’m just holding my breath that McCain doesn’t do anything equally stupid…

Reply 58—Posted by: cgood, 4/12/2008 8:58:52 AM

None of this news will matter to Obama’s die-hard, blinders-on supporters. They won’t even listen to this news. Their opinions are set.

I live with a large population of liberals…I’m vastly outnumbered here. I’ve been insulted and silenced by liberals for a long time when I try to say anything from a more conservative point of view. They’ve actually told me that I’m ignorant and biased but that they will still condescend to associate with me. It never entered my mind that they aren’t worthy of my friendship just because of their politics. So, who’s close-minded and a bigot?

Liberals only see what they want to see. They are so caught up in their intellectual arguments and self-righteousness that they can’t allow themselves to see how the rest of the world operates. Most of the liberals I know don’t practice any religion. They’re horrified by the thought of owning a gun or rifle, and they see bigotry only in others who don’t agree with them. Any argument or fact that threatens their secular world view is immediately dismissed as callow and clueless. Obama fits right in with them, unfortunately.

Reply 61—Posted by: planetgeo, 4/12/2008 9:18:17 AM

I’m sincerely surprised to say this, , but I think Obama is a racist. The liberals like him because they are governed by guilt and insecurity. They are prejudiced against white people too.

(Liberals have good reason to feel insecure. Basically self-interested and unethical people are on shaky ground, it’s those darned realities that keep popping into one’s consciousness. Of course, doing whatever one wants to do, an important liberal principle, is certainly rewarding in the short term. But the long term consequences, you know, like broken families, a rotting culture, etc. might sometimes cause one to feel the tiniest bit guilty. The cure? Why vote for an arrogant Black socialist to give more of other peoples’ money away to the needy. There, problem’s all fixed.)

#45 has it exactly right.

As usual, Obama quickly reframed what he said, with the help of Hillary. Why on earth everyone is attacking this ‘bitter’ comment as the essence of what he said is beyond me. The condescension came in his unforgivable slams against gun ownership and, more importantly, religion. And he asks us to understand HIS religious convictions!

The best way to attack him is to posit the question—‘If these people all got decent jobs, then they’d stop attending church and give up hunting? Is that what you’re saying, O Supercilious One?’

FOX is getting so unfocused and silly I can hardly stand it. However, the Lou Dobbs Show devoted one full hour to this yesterday. Three consultants were on, one of whom was a WaPo columnist and the other a familiar Democratic consultant. One rated Obama’s comments, on a scale of one to ten in terms of damage, as a ten and the other objected, saying it was an eleven! One was from small town Pennsylvania originally and he was steamed. Look for some good, hard-hitting columns on this soon.

to them about family and American value s and personal character. Then

you have an old photo of the President’s girlfriend. You scream

about patriotism and you tell them she’s to blame for their lot in life,

I suspect that Mr Obama’s speech writer watched that movie, too. I watched Obsma say the line last night and I sware he had to watch the movie too. I did not want to post the whole speech out of the movie ( you can google it), but the ideas are the same.

Obama is here to tell us how american citizenship is a hard course and that we should be grateful to pay higher taxes, hire gay cross dressers, and abort babies. It is the Republicans(Rumsons) who makes us afraid and hope that we cling to our religion and our guns.

Having spent most of my life in small towns(all around this country), we DO have antipathy towards people who are not like us…not that don’t LOOK like us but rather don’t THINK like us, we don’t like socialists assuming all power and money needs to be controlled from the capitol, we don’t like our tax money being used to subsidize mega-farms that put the family farm out of business, we don’t like our children being told there is no god and that there is no right and wrong, we don’t like the fact that some birdwatcher who moves here from the city(to get away from all their self created problems) wants to shut down our timber/mining industries…that “job corps” bring inner city ner-do-wells up here and pay them to corrupt our youth…

Rationality is in order here. If you are going to vote for Obama, pay attention to what the man you will vote for has said—not allegedly said, or what we imagine he thinks—these are his spoken words. He is a bigot and a racist, not because I think he is but because his words are bigoted and racist. If he becomes POTUS, David Duke, or someone like him, is going to attract a serious following—not something I want to see. I’ve lived in countries torn apart by racial/ethnic violence. Trust me, you don’t want to see that. And I know of no one more likely to trigger exactly that than BHO with his arrogant, elitist, twisted view of whites and America. It’s a free country, vote for whomever you want. But don’t say you…uh…had no idea….

The only surprising thing is that anybody is surprised Hildebeest is staying so certain that she will swipe the Weasel Democrat nomination.

At least Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton is not ashamed of her middle name.

There! I just said something nice about Hildebeest!

Oh, get real. Obama is racist or antiwhite—-he’s just an idiot!

Reply 82—Posted by: NancyBee, 4/12/2008 11:07:35 AM

Little by little, he is shedding his Magic Mantle, like the Cheshire Cat, disappearing a bit at a time, every time he opens his mouth.

*…previously unreported trip to Pakistan…*? I’d bet a lot of very interesting sidebars to his career are also unreported. We’d better do some more digging before we vote for him.

Balacko is getting more like ex-prez Bill C. and talking off the top of his head. Most of the folks in my small town are still trying to keep the traditional values and aren’t too likely to vote for B. O. anyway.

#76 claims she wants issues (but what the heck, she’s going to vote Barack anyway, just to teach Hannity a lesson). Well, Sweetie, here are a few of Obama’s positions:

He’s going to double the capital gains tax. (If you thought this was only for the super-rich who play in the stock market, think again. It also gets applied to your home equity when you sell your home.)

He says he’s going to start terminating a lot of our strategic weapons systems (missile defense, etc.).

He says he wants to unilaterally reduce our nuclear weapons stockpile (maybe his pal Ahmedinejad will buy some).

He says he’s going to withdraw our troops from Iraq within 60 days, no matter what. (See previous item before cheering.)

Enjoy.

I am Hillary, your future Queen Empress, and I APPROVE of this message.

(I knew he would stumble, and now I will swoop in and seize the nomination.)

Come on ldotters, give Obama a break. He hasn’t an original thought in his head. This is Revvrum Wright sputum Obama has been absorbing for the last 20 year and Saul Alinsky before that. Just who is the racist bigot here? Its clear to me. God help us!

In BO’s world, if there are any bumps in your life, it is not your responsibility to deal with it, just become a bitter victim and blame the govt. There’s no doubt that Michelle is bitter but what’s her excuse?? She didn’t loose her job, in fact she got some kind of kick-back raise when BHO was elected senator. Whatever the source of her bitterness, it’s obvious that it made her and BHO “cling” to Jeremiah Wright and their anti-American, racist, hate mongering “religion”. Perhaps BHO Freud can reflect upon that with his dime store psychology.

Reliance on God and guns: two of the reasons this country ever came into being. And now we have a society bent on destroying it. You’re damned right I’m bitter.

Reply 91—Posted by: CharleyMike, 4/12/2008 11:51:07 AM

It is central to Marxism that the population be denied firearms and have the state become the ‘religion’ in order to control the masses.

Gee, do I see a pattern here?

#39 said it best.

Buy your guns now, and lots of ammo, because if this Communist Muslim is elected, all those troops pulling out of Iraq may be coming to a town near you.

This racist snob is in the party of racist snobs or haven’t you noticed? Clintons lead the pack or haven’t you heard their rants? There are black racists, white racists and hispanic racists and they are registered democrats. And how can we forget Robert Byrd of West Virginia. Hillary loves this guy.

Reply 95—Posted by: foxglove, 4/12/2008 12:04:17 PM

Guns—Ronald Reagan said a strong defense.

Religion—1st Amendment, oh but Michelle is finally proud of her country

And I am proud to say I have been punished with five absolutely wonderful babies who can now vote.

Save us from the Values of Obamination

Don’t worry about secret trips to Pakistan or his middle name. The problem is Obama’s arrogant leftwing elitism. He knows nothing about middle America except what he’s learned from progressive professors and the Reverend Wright. That’s why Obama has a tin ear when he tries to talk to or about middle America. Obama share’s the left’s perspective. This keeps popping out whenever he’s off prepared speech (and even sometimes when he’s on prepared speech). I think everyone on the left was surprised at the reception he received with all of his “hope and change” platitudes and of course, the msm always backs the most leftist candidate (which he inarguably is, and OMG, Black to boot, fantastic!) and they’ve been writing glowing accounts of his every move and given him unlimited free passes.

The left believes Obama has a genuine shot at the Presidency and are busily attempting to rework him into being electable which means suppressing all of the candid pieces of written and recorded history that accurately reflect his real political philosophy.

And when he speaks off the cuff, he inevitably says something offensive. Any thinking middle American would be offended by Senator Obama’s ideas. They should be.

#76, please reconsider… yes, it can get v. tiring, but we must persevere with vigilance.

Reply 98—Posted by: Namma, 4/12/2008 12:38:03 PM

Hope #76 reads #84’s response. She will wish she lived in a small town with gun loving religious bitter people. they will survive living off the land better then city dewellers. With Obamas desire to rid America of defense..the only ones that will be able to survive will be small town bitter folks.

I also agree that if Obama is elected there just might be a race riot. Look what the man did to the superdelegate that called kids playing in a tree monkeys. I never took that as racist. Obama did. What does that tell you about the man. He is the racist.

Banging his head on the table to learn the Koran must have damaged his brain.

He needs to read some REAL American History………

It’s a “white thing”.

It’s a “religious thing”.

It’s an “AMERICAN THING”.
