The Dems’ alternatives

At Powerline Paul opines:
With the bloom largely off of the Obama rose, but with Clinton’s already-high level of unpopularity on the increase after her Bosnia fable, we’re hearing talk about the Democrats turning to Al Gore. In this scenario, the Dems, faced with the prospect of alienating one their core constituencies—Afrrican-Americans or feminists—opt to alienate both. Stranger things probably have happened in modern politics, but I can’t think of any.

Or, to put this Democratic thought process another way: “Obama is too tainted by his association with black racists. Hillary is too tainted by her corruption and lying. So, instead of the flawed Obama and the flawed Hillary, let’s nominate Gore, who is clinically insane!

I’m not kidding. Did you see his speech a couple of years ago about Abu Ghraib, where, sounding and looking like someone just escaped from an asylum, he said that the perverted treatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraid expressed the “essence” of the U.S. involvement in Iraq? Now, if it’s a fatal problem for Obama that he’s a lifelong follower of a demented anti-American, what about Gore, who is himself a demented anti-American?

To which the Republican (and Powerline) response is:

Since the Dems are so obviously out in la-la land, let’s run an utterly treasonous candidate who is so completely unhinged he could pass for the love child of Dr. Strangelove and Bobby Knight.

There is a reason, after all, the Republicans are quite deserving of the moniker “The Stupid Party.”
