Junk science

Here’s a piece by me from July 2002 which I just came upon by chance. It’s about a puffed-up New York Times story on the supposed discovery of a new hominid species, which led me to reflections on the decline of science and science writing, and their takeover by a multicultural sensibility.

VFR has such a vast archive that you can jump in anywhere and find surprising things—surprising even to the person who wrote them.
