What has become of conservatism in America

Gintas J. writes:

Conservatism does not stand athwart history calling out, “Stop!” It is not the man in Tiananmen square facing down a column of tanks. No, it lays down in front of the Leftist Juggernaut, a glorified speed bump.

(From dictionary.com, the origin of the word Juggernaut: “Also called Jagannath. an idol of Krishna, at Puri in Orissa, India, annually drawn on an enormous cart under whose wheels devotees are said to have thrown themselves to be crushed.”)

Howard Sutherland writes:

What a shame Ponnuru did not throw himself under Jagannath’s wheels instead of leaving his homeland to come annoy us. He could have spared us Americans a lot of unnecessary irritation.

LA replies:

Yes, it certainly does take something away from the conservative argument for immigration, doesn’t it? Send us your non-European immigrants with their traditional values, so that they or their children can become editors of National Review and then come out in support of open homosexuals in the military.
