Conspiracy thinking—a chronic temptation of the human race, getting worse in our time

If you would you like to understand the knotty subject of gnosticism and its connection to conspiracy thinking in under 700 words, read this VFR item from December 2003.

But—I can imagine some alert reader asking—am I not myself indulging in gnostic-type thinking in the previous blog entry, where I call for a “totally new Western consciousness” under a “new leadership” to save the West? Nope. To say that we have an incorrect view of reality and a diseased will which together are leading us to our ruin, and that we must change our thinking and our actions if we are to save ourselves, is not gnosticism; it is politics.
