Looking for a conservative candidate

John at Powerline has gotten over his surprise that conservatives don’t consider John (“I’m for open borders and everyone who disagrees with me is a racist”) McCain a conservative, and concedes that it is unlikely that McCain, or, a fortiori, the pro-homosexual marriage, pro-partial birth abortion Rudolph Giuliani, will be nominated by the GOP. He also sees Mitt Romney as an unlikely choice given his lack of a track record among conservatives. Since George Allen, the former conservative hope, is out of the running, John says some new candidate is likely to emerge. A reasonable prediction.
