Even Bush fans are noticing that La Grande Condoleezza is out to lunch

Re the speech by President Bush’s resident “genius,” Condoleezza Rice, to a group of U.S. Palestinian in which she equated the Palestinian drive for statehood with the American struggle for Independence, Powerline comments:

Secretary Rice describes herself as a student of history, though she herself seems to be dreaming here. She is dreaming, perhaps, of Yasser Arafat’s January 2002 remarks in which Arafat likened himself to George Washington. When she wakes up, I wonder if she’ll identify a few active Palestinian political figures who dream of a Palestinian state living side by side in peace with Israel rather than dream of a Palestinian state in its place. Dreamers of the latter dream seem to constitute a conspicuous majority of the followers of Hamas and Arafat’s Fatah Party. In any event, perhaps Secretary Rice can contemplate how the latter dream is also one of those that may seem impossible before it happens and inevitable afterward.

There is another point to be made about Rice’s recent remarks. That she would feel free to make such a disgusting comparison is a result of the lack of any criticism of her from conservatives. For years she has repeated her mantra that we should be patient with the horror of ongoing terrorist violence in Iraq, because America itself was never that great; we had slavery and racial discrimination and we denied women the vote. In leftist fashion, to render us non-judgmental about the charnel house of Iraq, she denigrates America, and she has done this not only before American audiences, but in every foreign country she has visited. For this repulsive behavior she has received nary a word of rebuke, except at this website and maybe a few others. Encountering no opposition to her anti-American career, she has now brought it to a new stage, equating America, not just to our troubled and backward allies in Iraq, but to our declared enemies the Palestinians, the people who danced in the streets on 9/11, the people who make a cult out of suicide bombing, putting suicide-bomb vests on their children, the people who elected Hamas, an organization devoted not only to the destruction of Israel but to the destruction of the Jewish people.

Rice evidently thinks her statements equating American Independence with Palestinian statehood are unobjectionable. How can she know otherwise, unless the conservatives tell her so, loud and clear?
