Ali gives her side

Ayaan Hirsi Ali tells her story in an English language Dutch publication. She insists she was telling the truth when she said that her marriage was forced. She says that she has repeatedly admitted in public, before and after she was elected to parliament, that the other parts of her asylum story were false (which again raises the question why the authorities did not take steps against her then). She explains many things, including her name. Her real name is Ayaan Hirsi Magan, meaning Ayaan, the daughter of Hirsi, the son of Magan.

One thing in particular strikes me about this statement: her stand as a critic of Islam, which she refers to repeatedly, seems to be limited exclusively to the Islamic treatment of women, which makes her sound, not like a critic of Islam as such, but like your usual Western liberal calling for equal rights for women.
