The wrong profile

Quote of the week, from Rick Darby at the Reflecting Light blog:

A great deal of speculation is going on in the blogosphere about what drives Bush-Gonzales in his obsession with Mexicanizing the United States. It clearly is not a politically popular move, and a president with an approval rating in the 30s is hardly in a position to continue showing the country a profile in dementia.

Mr. Darby also quotes at length Howard Sutherland’s insightful speculation—and I think it’s very plausible—about the roots of President Bush’s Mexico fixation.
