The mess of Saddam’s trial

Unbelievable. In the Iraqi court where the trial or preliminary hearing for the trial of Saddam Hussein is being conducted, the defendant, Hussein, is holding forth at length, in a conversation with the judge. A trial is not meant to be a soapbox for the defendant. But that’s what this “trial” seems to be. The Iraqis seem to have have been infected by an American-style laxity. The way things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised of Hussein gets acquitted and runs for president of Iraq.
