Cultural separation redux

Paul Weyrich revisits the cultural issue that he raised a storm about with his 1999 open letter calling for conservatives to separate themselves from the prevailing liberal culture. He repeats his point that conservatives have won in politics, but lost the culture, which is far more important, and now conservatives must strive to build the institutions of a renewed culture. But since he’s hardly touched on this issue since the “cultural separation” conference he held in 1999 (which I attended, along with about 40 other people), and, in fact, his columns during the Bush era have focused almost exclusively on political minutia of the moment, the article has no impact and seems more like a tired sigh than a call to arms.
