UN supports multiculturalism

The UN is getting into the multiculturalism game. According to a report from the UN Development Program, (1) diversity—the presence of conspicuously different ethnic and religious groups in the same country—is here to stay; (2) this diversity is a good thing and does not threaten national unity or national “development”; and (3) intolerant movements are increasing and becoming a prominent force in national politics in many places around the world. Isn’t there something of a contradiction between items 2 and 3? Isn’t the increasing intolerance in large part a consequence of the increasing diversity that the report says is a good thing?

The story, from Agence France-Press, fails to give the name or the web address of the UN report.
