With suffering, a blessing

There has been a very wide silver lining to the deadly disease and the debilitating—and life-saving—treatment that I have been coping with for the last two and a half years, and to the particular ordeal (which, it now appears, is not a direct manifestation of the cancer—more on that later) that I’ve been going through for the last three weeks: the caring, the friendship, and the expressions of appreciation and love that I have received from so many people, both those who personally know me and those who have never met me. It has enriched my life beyond what I could have imagined or hoped for. The latest such expression comes from Patrick H., in this entry where messages from readers are collected.
