The world just keeps getting more and more random

Lawrence S. writes (November 2):

Thought you might appreciate this. In California there is a proposition to outlaw the death penalty. One of the major justifications for it is the money spent on lawyers for death row inmates. In a recent interview a proponent of the proposition talked about “wasting millions of dollars for people who happen to be on death row.”

LA replies:

Not only are murders, stompings, rapes, and tortures “random,” but convictions and death-penalty sentences are also random.
