The Virgin Mary thanked for the Christian victory at the battle of Lepanto

Lisa F. writes:

Today the Roman Catholic Church observes the feast of The Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary. From my missal:

The decisive victory of the Christians at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 prompted Pius V to institute this Feast and to decree that the Blessed Virgin Mary be invoked as “Help of Christians.”

LA replies:

Which makes one wonder: could a society of secularists, liberals, libertarians, and “conservatives” defeat Islam, as a society of Christians did at Lepanto?

There is also a discussion of the battle of Lepanto at The Thinking Housewife.
