The Democrats’ current line

A couple of evenings ago I saw E.J. Dionne on Rachel Maddow’s program (there was a male guest host of the young castrato type) declaring that Obama’s “You didn’t build that” speech was not radical but an expression of traditional American ideals, and that it’s the Republicans, by attacking these traditional American ideals, who are showing themselves to be the real radicals.

Indeed, as many Democrats have been saying lately, today’s Republicans are unprecedentedly radical, because of their opposition to traditional American ideals.

There is no lie, no matter how extreme, that the Democrats won’t tell. They are Plato’s tyrannical men (see Book IX of The Republic), who will do anything, say anything, in furtherance of their desires. I don’t see how our Republic can survive the fact that one of its two major parties is a party of Plato’s tyrannical men.
