Where’s the beef? (or the pork, or the buffalo meat, or the anything?)

Ben M. writes:

A silly question. Has anybody read what the actual evidence is for the existence of the Higgs boson? Now, one can read Anselm’s evidence for the existence of God by opening the pages of his book Proslogion. But I have not seen anyone explain what the evidence for the Higgs is. Has anyone seen the evidence laid out? Some people told others that the boson has almost certainly been found and much cheering ensued. However I have not seen anything written describing how it was found. Perhaps the emperor has no clothes. All we have are press releases declaring that it has been found.

LA replies:

Same here. In all the flood of articles, I have not seen a single account laying out for the lay reader what the experiment did and how it determined that the hog’s bison exists.
