The indescribable lowness of contemporary political leaders

Was any leader in Dark Age Britain as low a creature as Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, or David Cameron? I doubt it again: either such people would have found no followers in that more honest world, or they would have been killed when their followers realised their faithlessness.
