Conservatism

I was interested in your section on the racial discourse in America (“Derbyshire’s List”).

Here is a conversation between a person and a conservative:

Person: Let’s talk about black violence these days.

Conservative: That’s not the important issue, it’s the economy. That’s what we should talk about.

Person: Why wouldn’t Romney bring up Jeremiah Wright?

Conservative: That’s not the important issue, it’s the economy. That’s what we should talk about.

Person: Western civilization is falling apart due to the abandonement of the Judeo-Christian ethic.

Conservative: That’s not the important issue, it’s the economy. That’s what we should talk about.

Person: If people only knew about Obama’s inner character and the people he has interacted with …

Conservative: That’s not the important issue, it’s the economy. That’s what we should talk about.

Person: Muslims are flooding Western countries and trying to import Sharia law into our societies. Conservative:

That’s not the important issue, it’s the economy. That’s what we should talk about.
