Are amazing outdoors achievements about a pursuit of the transcendent, or about the cult of the self? The debate continues.

Last night Kristor posted an eloquent comment defending outdoorsmen from the accusation that they are just seeking to glorify their self over nature. He said their pursuit of ever new records and achievements has integrity and a deep spiritual dimension. In another eloquent comment, Patrick H. takes strong exception to Kristor’s argument.
