If Gingrich won

Byron York (“Surging fast, Gingrich looks to take Iowa”) lays out persuasive reasons why Gingrich is likely to win on January 3. I feel I’m watching the Republicans commit collective hara-kiri. Isn’t the top Republican priority this year to beat Obama? Do the people supporting Gingrich really think that this unstable gasbag can win a national election?

And—though it may seem like small potatoes compared to the necessity of beating Obama—in the unlikely event that Gingrich did beat him, we’d be putting in the White House a thrice married man and his third wife who became his third wife by having a five year long adulterous affair with him while he was married to and living with his second wife and serving as Speaker of the House, and who looks as though she were his daughter (in fact, Callista, age 45, is three years younger than Gingrich’s first daughter and the same age as Gingrich’s second daughter). If Gingrich became president, we’d instantly become a junk country.
