Responding to criticisms of VFR

For newer readers, a good way to get into the heart of what this site is about would be to peruse the entry, “Responding to criticisms and questions,” a collection of entries in which I have replied to strong and fundamental criticisms that have been made of my writings over the years. The entry is also permanently linked in the sidebar.

Recently a reader, echoing a point I’ve heard before, told me that I should not respond to criticism (he had in mind this). My own view is the opposite. Since I challenge so many currently dominant beliefs and attitudes, and since my own positions are extreme and heterodox according to prevailing liberal and “conservative” orthodoxy, I am sensible of the fact that I need to explain myself—which I do, over and over again. Such exchanges are a large part of what VFR is about.
