Remember Tunisia, that pure birthplace of the Arab democracy wave?

The new Tunisia regime’s founding document bars relations with Israel. But of course democracy means rule by the people, and Muslim people want Israel to be destroyed. So no surprise here for anyone—except for the entire mainstream opinion-forming apparatus of the entire Western world, who told us that Muslim democracy would mean “peace.”

Yes, I know this is getting boring by now, but, as Orwell famously said, the first duty of intelligent men blah blah blah blah blah.

From ANSA Med (Via Andrew Bostom):

Tunisia’s commission of political reform announced that it adopted (by majority) a “republican pact” that will be the basis of the future new Constitution, and in particular it states the rejection of any normalization with Israel. While announcing the pact the president of the commission, Yadh Ben Achour, did not offer any details, but the Arab speaking Tunisian press published its content, which defines Tunisia as a free and democratic country, whose official language is Arab and whose religion is Islam.

The pact, that will serve as the basis of the future Constitution, categorically rejects “any form of normalization with the Zionist State’”, and supports the Palestinian cause.

Maybe—or so I suppose a supporter of Muslim democracy may think—Tunisians will someday adopt normal relations with Israel because they’ll learn to ignore their founding documents the way we ignore ours.

LA replies:

You’ve got it. After all, American democracy—including race and sex quotas, including the “living Constitution”—is the model for the world, right?

Jake replies:

Precisely.
