Wilders is acquitted

The two and a half years long case against Geert Wilders for “incitement of hatred and discrimination” is over. The judges found that Wilders’s statements were directed at Islam, not at Muslims as people, just as he had said all along, and therefore were “acceptable within the context of public debate.” According to the BBC, in one of those observations of the Dutch court system that leave Americans scratching their heads, “Both the defence and prosecution had called for an acquittal.”

Here is a longer article from Radio Netherlands, published yesterday before the verdict had come in, but when an acquittal was widely expected.
