Gingrich in clean-up mode

Newt Gingrich has been calling Republicans all over the country apologizing for his amazing statement on Meet The Press last weekend that the Ryan Medicare plan is “right-wing social engineering” as bad as Obama’s left-wing social engineering.

An earlier VFR entry today about Gingrich’s attack on Ryan was entitled, “Gingrich: crazy, calculating, or unconscious?”

I guess we can remove the “calculating.”

* * *

Here is where a calculating man does not end up. As reported by Toby Harnden in the Telegraph,

On the second day of a 17-city tour of Iowa, where the first votes in the 2012 presidential contest will be cast next February, Mr Gingrich was confronted by a man who shook his hand and said: “Speaker Gingrich, what you just did to Paul Ryan is unforgivable.”

When Mr Gingrich responded that “I didn’t do anything to Paul Ryan,” the man shot back: “Yes, you did. You undercut him and his allies in the House. You’re an embarrassment to our party. Why don’t you get out before you make a bigger fool of yourself?”
