The mass murderer’s white girlfriend
One of the bizarre elements of the Thornton mass murder is his girlfriend and defiant defender, Kristi Hannah. After most instances of mass killings, family members of the perpetrators express their deep sorrow and try to keep a low profile. I can’t recall another instance in which a girlfriend of a mass murderer has mounted such a brazen defense of his heinous act.

I admit to having a negative impression of white women who attach themselves to black men, though I acknowledge that it’s none any of my business. In most cases, I assume they have low self esteem, a desire to punish daddy, a martyr complex, or an overwhelming need to “make a statement,” in which case they enjoy the attention they get. (This last is what I would guess animates Heidi Klum.)
Kristi Hannah seems to be of the low self-esteem type who strongly identifies with her boyfriend’s sense of persecution. To the Daily News, she said, “I fell in love with him because he was the most gentle man I had ever met. His eyes were so kind. He would never hurt another creature.”
Her type was strikingly satirized by Tracy Ullman in this short piece.

I once met Heidi Klum and “Seal” casually at a drinks party in London. To me, he comes across as a thoroughly nice man and I am amazed that nobody ever assumes that Ms. Klum maybe just likes the man. He is a celebrity in his own right and she would get attention whomever she marries, so the martyr complex and attention seeking theories don’t seem to hold water.
Just to be fair. It doesn’t mean that I do not support endogamy and dislike interracial marriage.
