Republicans have heart-to-heart, so to speak, with Obama

The enemy-in-chief requested a luncheon with Republican congressmen and senators to air their differences, and it appears the Republicans let him have it. The AP story is filled with tough things the Republicans said to him. One wonders what Obama’s purpose was in having such a meeting, except perhaps to say that for his part he was trying to reach out, and those Republicans didn’t reciprocate. As the AP puts it:

It’s hard to know if Obama genuinely thought his luncheon visit would melt some of the partisan iciness. Several Republican senators and aides in the room said he seemed to be going through the motions, not making real efforts at consensus.
