An Indian living in the West writes:

But the truth is that all imagery of human beings, and not just of God (or gods, for pagans), is prohibited in Islam. When Muslim hordes invaded India, it was standard practice not only to defile Hindu temples but all art that depicted human beings. All great art would be impossible under Islam with its barbaric prohibitions on music and painting (is life worth living without either?). When Westerners see a regime like the Taliban, they find it incomprehensible why the rulers would ban even the most innocuous forms of folk music and dance. But that is what the Quran commands. And those who take it seriously turn into anti-human psychopaths.
