The health care bill and the American Founding

Of the many false things Nancy Pelosi said in her speech in the House last night, perhaps the most false was that the health care bill represents the fulfillment of the Declaration of Independence. America was founded on resistance to excessive and unaccountable government power. The health care bill produces vast new government powers over us against which we will have no recourse.

But so it is with the left. On one hand, they say we must go beyond that old-fashioned Founding which is so irrelevant to the needs of our time. On the other hand, when it suits their purpose, they appeal to the Founding and dress their wicked plans in its prestige.
