Columnist decries TSA “overkill”

Here, from Daniel Rubin of the Philadelphia Inquirer, is the story of how Transportation Security Administration agents at the Philadelphia airport treated a four year old boy who requires leg braces to walk.

Yes, it’s madness, insanity, gratuitous power tripping. But really, what is there to say about it? You set up a bureaucracy with certain rules by which tens of thousands of air travelers are processed every day, and put low intelligence people in charge of it, and things like this are inevitable. So let’s not fall for Non-TSA Theories of TSA Overkill. The overkill is built into the system, and into the liberal assumptions on which the system is based.
