“Bye, Bye, Evan Bayh”

A commenter at Hot Air has an amusing take-off of Don McLean’s “Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie”:

A long, long time ago …
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

But February made me shiver
With every Global Warming paper.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read Obamacare died,
But something touched me deep inside
The day my polling died.

So bye-bye, Evan Bayh
Drove my party to the center,
With no one at my side.
Reid and Dorgan were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

Did you write Cap And Trade,
And watch your poll numbers fade,
If Rahm Emmanuel told you so?
Do you believe in Hope and Change,
Ignore Tea Party rage,
If a teleprompter tells you so?

So bye-bye, Evan Bayh
Drove my party to the center,
With no one at my side.
Chris Dodd was drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

Well, I know that you’re in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin’ with Robert Gibbs
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I hate Fox News.

I was a lonely Red State buck
With no Berkeley voters and no pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day my poll numbers died.

Voters started singin’,
“bye-bye, Evan Bayh.”
Drove my party to the center,
With no one at my side.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The unemployment rate wouldn’t rebound.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while I hoped it wasn’t too late,
Obama wouldn’t triangulate,
And take Healthcare off my plate
And then…. the polling died.

Voters started singin’,
“bye-bye, Evan Bayh.”
Drove my party to the center,
With no one at my side.
I’ll go home and drink whiskey and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”
